Our main product, lime, is a versatile industrial chemical that has long been indispensable for vital industrial processes and applications and has more recently come to the fore as an essential element for addressing a multitude of complex environmental challenges.

CHEMICAL MANUFACTURING

Tirupati & Venkateshwar Mines limestone is used in a variety of chemical manufacturing applications as a chemical raw material, processing aid, water treatment additive and environmental treatment material. The excavated lime is used in wide variety of high performance and cost-effective calcium products that are widely used in chemical applications due to their available calcium, various grades of particle sizing and reactivity and surface area.

CONSTRUCTION

Limestone (calcium carbonate) are used for various construction-related purposes including soil stabilization and modification, asphalt and building construction applications. Quicklime and hydrated lime which are the minerals produced from limestone are primarily used today in soil stabilization for roads, airfields and building foundations, where it upgrades low quality soils into usable base and sub-base materials.

Tirupati & Venkateshwar Mines has a broad portfolio of products for use in the construction industry. Standard Quicklime is used in soil stabilization and modification applications. CalCarb® Calcium Carbonate are used in asphalt applications as an anti-strip and functional filler, respectively. Architectural Lime Putty is used in building construction applications as mortar and plaster components. CalCarb® Calcium Carbonate serves as a component in the manufacture of roofing materials.

ENVIRONMENTAL

Calcium oxide, calcium hydroxide and calcium carbonate are used in waste water, sludge and bio-solids treatment and flue gas treatment. Quicklime, hydrated lime and limestone are some of the most versatile minerals used in industry. These products are employed for acid neutralization, precipitation, coagulation and pH control functions in a wide variety of environmental applications.
The use of calcium products in environmental markets has grown significantly in recent years as regulations have tightened and industry has discovered the advantages of lime — especially in the treatment of waste water, waste sludge, refuse, flue gas and other air emissions.
Waste water streams, whether industrial or municipal, may require pH adjustment and/or the removal of metallic contaminants before they can be discharged safely into the environment. Lime plays a very important role in the treatment of household and industrial waste sludge prior to disposal in landfills or as an agricultural supplement. Lime is also used to treat contaminated soils. Control of sulfur-containing compounds produced by the burning of fossil fuels at power generation plants and industrial facilities is mandated by the USEPA. Lime is used in both the removal of sulfur dioxide (SO2) as well as control of sulfite (SO3).

FLUE GAS TREATMENT

Flue gas treatment (FGT) has become a focus of electric utilities and industrial operations due to increasingly tighter air quality standards. As companies seek to comply with air quality regulations using cost-effective fuels, the need arises for effective flue gas treatment options.
A variety of calcium-based materials are proven reagents for treating acidic air emissions. The primary categories of calcium reagents used in FGT applications are:
These reagents have differing characteristics and can be effectively employed at different points in the process. Calcium-based reagents are effective at removing acid gases including:
SO2 treatment and SO3 treatment are the most common needs for acid gas control. However, recent MACT regulations for utility and industrial boilers are driving dry sorbent injection (DSI) use for multi-pollutant removal situations.

FOOD

Calcium oxide, calcium hydroxide and calcium carbonate products are used in a variety of food grade applications as a raw material, processing aid and water treatment additive. These calcium compounds are vital to the manufacture of many foods and food ingredients which require raw materials with Food Chemicals Codex certification.

GLASS & FIBER GLASS

Calcium oxide and calcium carbonate products are used in both glass manufacturing and fiberglass manufacturing applications. Glass and fiberglass are obtained from the fusion of several inorganic materials. Silica sand, soda ash, calcium oxide and calcium or dolomitic limestone together represent a majority of the raw materials used in the production of glass and fiberglass.

Tirupati & Venkateshwar Mines, Calcium Carbonate product families are critical raw materials in both glass and fiberglass manufacturing applications. The high purity and controlled sizing of calcium products obtained from our limestone have set the standard for these key raw materials.

PAINT & INK

Precipitated calcium carbonate and ground calcium carbonate products are used in many paint (architectural, industrial and traffic) and ink applications as either a function filler or TiO2 extender. Paints, inks and coatings are versatile and require specific solutions in order to maximize their performance. Without raw materials such as pigments and fillers, performance would suffer. Magnum Fill® and Magnum Gloss® Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC) products are designed to provide optimum performance in coating and ink applications. PAPER

Calcium carbonates are used in both paper coating and as a paper filler, while calcium oxide and calcium hydroxide are used in pulp/PCC manufacturing applications.

Tirupati & Venkateshwar Mines Company has merchant PCC facilities located at our Ste. Genevieve site serving paper mill customers from the wet end through the coating operations. The Magnum Gloss® Slurry, Magnum Gloss® Powder, Magnum Fill® Slurry, and Magnum Fill® Slurry product families are designed for both paper coating and paper filler applications. With superior blue-white shaded and engineered crystal morphology, the We are a precipitated calcium carbonate products have excellent optical qualities for all paper-making applications.

Precipitated calcium carbonates are also manufactured in satellite facilities that are on-site or next to a paper making facility. Calcium oxide or calcium hydroxide is required as a raw material for the PCC manufacturing process. The lime is also a key component of the sulfate process in pulp plants where it is used to recausticize a waste calcium carbonate solution and regenerate sodium hydroxide for reuse in the process.

PLASTIC & RUBBER MATERIAL

Calcium carbonate materials have long been recognized as both a performance additive and functional filler in rubber and plastic applications. Calcium oxide serves as a desiccant while calcium hydroxide serves as an accelerant in rubber applications. Ground and precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) are widely used as fillers in plastic and rubber applications. PCC can also add functional properties in some applications.
Calcium Oxide product family is used in rubber applications due to their specialized purity, reactivity and sizing. CalCarb. AC3, Magnum Fill Powder and Magnum Gloss Powder precipitated calcium carbonates provide a broad spectrum of sizing and physical attributes required of functional filler in plastic applications.

STEELS & METALS

Calcium oxide and other calcium products are used in a variety of steel and metals applications primarily in electric arc furnace (EAF), basic oxygen furnace (BOF), as well as related water treatment and environmental systems. Calcium oxide (Quicklime) is used as a flux in purifying steel in the electric arc furnace (EAF) and basic oxygen furnace (BOF), removing phosphorus, sulfur, silica and manganese. Quicklime also has important uses in the secondary refining of steel and in the manufacture of steel products.

OTHER APPLICATIONS

Tirupati & Venkateshwar Mines products have become the Standard of Excellence in many other applications not previously discussed. Some other market applications include: Leather Tanning – The chemical treatment of animal hides requires several steps to produce a finished piece of leather that has the desired look, feel and strength to meet consumer’s expectations. One of the most important chemical treatment steps utilizes a slurry of Standard Hydrated Lime to remove the animal hair from the hides.

Agricultural
CalCarb® Ag Stone calcium carbonate (limestone) are used to adjust the pH of soil to provide improved growing conditions thus improving crop yields. Feed Grade Limestone (F1) is used as a calcium additive for animal mineral feeds and as poultry grit.
Coal Industry
Pulverized limestone is applied to ceilings, walls and floors of mines as a slurry or dry powder in order to improve mine safety by deactivating the combustibility of coal dust. CalCarb® C2 Coal Mine Rockdust is the product of choice.
Corn Stover
Alkaline treatment of agricultural residue (i.e. corn stover, wheat straw) with lime enhances digestibility and nutritional value allowing for the replacement of a substantial portion of grain in cattle diets. Using lime-treated corn stover also eliminates the need for additional calcium supplements in a ruminant’s diet. Lime treatment results in significantly lower feed costs and improved profitability for cattle producers as well as a residue management opportunity and additional revenue stream for grain farmers. Parks & Recreation
